An ode to womenhood
Born and raised in Botswana, Janne Louise grew up surrounded by wood and stone crafted arts, with a tradition of making passed down through hands. That relationship with material remains at the heart of her practice. Living in cities such as Amsterdam and Buenos Aires introduced new visual languages: colour, design, reflection and contemporary materials. In her work, these influences meet.
Wood and stone provide structure, warmth and weight. Acrylic, resin, mirror and foil introduce colour, shine, reflection and transformation. The tension between the raw and the polished, the natural and the artificial, is central to the work.
In Fête de la Foufoune, these materials come together around a form that is intimate, recognisable and often hidden from view. The result is a series of sculptures that sit somewhere between abstract form, portrait and object. The series is ongoing, evolving through new characters, colours, materials, layers and larger formats.
